MODULE 1

GETTING READY TO LEARN
BY: MADAM AIMI MUNIRAH JALILLUDDIN

As my age turns 18, I already left highschool life. I will enter the new phase in my life which is UNIVERSITY LIFE. So, I have to make myself ready; physically and mentally. When my feet one step in the UiTM Jengka's main gate, I have to bear in mind that I am not in school anymore.

Well, there are lots of difference between school and university life.

⭐️ UNIVERSITY
▪ You spend less time in class (more time studying outside your classroom or lecture hall).
▪ You need to read more as your lecturer would not provide any notes for you unless you copy all the notes in the slides.
▪ You have to be involved in lots of extra activities (in order to get coupons to keep stay in the college)
▪ You have to be independent because your parents are not here with you 🙄
▪ Your lecturers would not tell you what is on the test

⭐️ SCHOOL
▪ You spend at least half of your day at school (as I said at least, so it can be more)
▪ Your teachers will provide you all the important notes so, you do not have trouble yourself to copy notes
▪ It is all good if you did not involved in any extra activities (it just your certificates would not be high as mount 😉)
▪ Your teachers will at least giving a small hint about what will be on the test, so you just have to open your eyes and ears as wide as you can.

In university, I have to compete with lots of smart students.
So, to compete with them I must have characteristics of successful students.
🔹 I have to make weekly schedule and follow the schedule
🔹 I have to know my personal style
🔹 I have to read the assigned material before going to class
🔹 I have to learn how to take a good notes
🔹 This one is the most important; I have to identify my particular challenges (time management, procrastination, test anxiety).

In addition, in order I want to be a successful students I have to know my learning styles to enhance my performance. There are 3 learning styles:

1. AUDITORY LEARNERS
Auditory learning is a learning style in which a person learns through listening. An auditory learner depends on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning.[1] Auditory learners must be able to hear what is being said in order to understand and may have difficulty with instructions that are drawn but if the writing is in a logical order it can be easier to understand . They also use their listening and repeating skills to sort through the information that is sent to them.[2]  (source: wikipedia)

2. VISUAL LEARNERS
Visual learning is a style in which a learner utilizes graphs, charts, maps and diagrams. (source: wikipedia)

3. KINESTHETIC LEARNERS
Kinesthetic learning (American English), kinaesthetic learning (British English), or tactile learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations. As cited by Favre (2009), Dunn and Dunn define kinesthetic learners as students who require whole-body movement to process new and difficult information.[1] (source: wikipedia)

Well, I am a visual learners and kinesthetic learners.
